Turkey's unemployment rate was 10.9 percent in May, down by 0.3 points compared to the previous month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) figures released today (July 13).
The unemployment rate was 9.5 among men and 13.8 percent among women, the figures showed.
The number of the unemployed decreased by 56,000 to 3.78 million.
Broad unemployment rate, however, increased by 0.8 points in a month to 22.4 percent. Some 8.38 million people are unemployed according to the broad definition of unemployment, termed as "idle labor force" by the TurkStat.
The number of the employed rose by 358,000 to 39.89 million, with the employment rate increasing by 0.5 points to 47.8 percent.
The employment rate was 65.3 percent among men and 30.6 percent among women.
The labor force participation rate increased by 0.4 points to 53.6 percent. It was 72.2 percent among men and 35.5 percent among women.
Unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 20.3 percent in May, down by 0.2 points in a month.
The average working time was 44 hours in a week. (HA/VK)
