Minister of National Education Prof. Ziya Selçuk has resigned. While Prof. Mahmut Özer has been appointed as the new Education Minister of the country, three deputy ministers have been appointed by President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In a Presidential decision published in the Official Gazette today (August 6), it has been announced that Ziya Selçuk's 'request for being excused from duty has been accepted'." The decision has also indicated that Deputy Minister Mahmut Özer has been appointed in his place.
According to the decision, the appointment of Prof. Mahmut Özer has been carried out as per the Articles 104 and 106 of the Constitution.
Özer, who was previously the deputy minister of Ziya Selçuk, had served as the Chair of the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and as the Rector of Bülent Ecevit University in Zonguldak.
Erdoğan has also appointed Prof. Petek Aşkar, Prof. Ahmet Emre Bilgili and Dr. Sadri Şensoy as the Deputy Ministers of National Education.
Having resigned from office, Ziya Selçuk has shared a message of thanks on his social media account. Expressing his "gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for giving him the opportunity to work for the children of the country," Ziya Selçuk has also wished success to new Minister Mahmut Özer and his new deputy ministers.
