The Ministry of Health announced the latest figures on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Turkey yesterday (January 2).
While the daily number of new cases has been announced as 33,520, 129 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Turkey in the last 24 hours. While 22,161 people have recovered in a day, the number of tests conducted in the last 24 hours has been announced as 362,836.

284,540 doses administered in a day
As of 7 pm on January 2, 284,540 vaccine doses, Sinovac, Pfizer/BioNTech or Turkovac, were administered in Turkey in the last 24 hours.
According to the vaccination data shared by Turkey's Health Ministry, while 56,936,303 people have been vaccinated with the first dose in Turkey so far, 51,638,889 have received the second dose and 19,356,996 people have been given the third dose. Taken together, the total number of vaccine doses administered so far is 132,215,015 in Turkey.
While 91.73 percent of Turkey's population over the age of 18 has been vaccinated with the first dose, this rate is 83.19 percent for the second dose.

Global death toll has topped 5 million
Since December 2019, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has claimed over 5.44 million lives in 191 countries and regions.
Over 290.1 million cases have been reported worldwide, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
Over 8 billion doses in the world
According to the figures shared by the World Health Organization (WHO), 8,687,201,202 doses of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines were administered across the world as of December 27, 2021. (RT/SD)
