Turkey's February temperature average increased from 4.1 degrees Celsius to 5.4 degrees Celsius in 2022.
While the lowest February temperature was measured in Van's Özalp in the east with -26.7 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature was witnessed in Şırnak's Cizre in the southeast with 24.5 degrees.
According to the measurements, the February temperature average in Turkey was up by 1.3 degrees this year.
As compiled by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) from the data of Directorate General of Meteorology, temperatures were above the seasonal normals in Lüleburgaz, Alanya, Adana, Kaş, Acıpayam, Kale-Demre, Akçakoca, Zonguldak, İnebolu, Sinop, Samsun, Trabzon, Bafra, Oltu, the northern parts of Eastern Anatolia and the Southeastern Anatolia region.
The temperatures were around the seasonal normals in other provinces and regions of Turkey, the data has shown.
1.1-degree increase in Marmara region
In the Marmara region in Turkey's northwest, where İstanbul is also located, temperatures were above the seasonal normals in Kırklareli's Lüleburgaz while they were around the normals in other regions.
The average temperature of the region had long been 6.1 degrees; last month, the average temperature was 7.2 degrees.
While the lowest temperature was measured in central Balıkesir with -5.6 degrees, the highest one was in Balıkesir's Gönen with 21.1 degrees.
0.5-degree increase in the Aegean
In Turkey's western region of Aegean, the average temperature, which had long been 7.4 degrees, was 7.9 degrees in February 2022.
While the lowest temperature was seen in Afyon with -9.7 degrees, the highest temperature was in Muğla's Milas with 20.6 degrees.
Highest temperature in Mediterranean: 23.9
In the Mediterranean region, which is marked by warm winters, the temperatures were above the seasonal normals in Alanya, Adana, Kaş, Acıpayam and Kale-Demre. While the average February temperature of the region had long been 8.6 degrees, it was 9.6 this February.
The lowest temperature was measured in Göksun with -13.1 degrees while the highest temperature was in İskenderun with 23.9.
Central Anatolia
In Turkey's Central Anatolia, the average February temperature increased from 0.9 degrees to 1.5 degrees in February 2022.
While the lowest temperature was witnessed in Sivas Gemerek with -19.3 degrees, the highest one was in Aksaray and Kayseri with 17.3
1.5-degree increase in the Black Sea
In the Black Sea region, the February temperatures were above the seasonal normals in Akçakoca, Zonguldak, İnebolu, Sinop, Samsun, Trabzon, Bafra and Oltu and their surrounding areas.
While the average February temperature had long been 4 degrees Celsius in the region, it was 5.5 degrees this February. The lowest temperature was measured in Bolu province with -13.5 degrees and the highest temperature was witnessed in Artvin's Hopa with 24.4 degrees.
Eastern Anatolia: Above seasonal normals
In the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey, the temperatures were above the seasonal normals in Ardahan, Erzurum, Kars, Iğdır, Elazığ, Horasan, Doğanşehir and Başkale and their surrounding areas in February.
The average temperature of the region in February increased from -2.8 Celsius degrees to -0.5 degrees this year. While the lowest temperature was measured in Van's Özalp district with -26.7 degrees, the highest temperature was recorded in Diyarbakır's Ergani with 17.1 degrees.
Southeastern Anatolia
Marked by drought, the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey saw temperatures above the seasonal normals in Batman and Diyarbakır's Çermik. The average temperature in February increased from 6.1 degrees to 8.8 degrees in February 2022.
While the lowest February temperature was seen in Batman with -5.7 degrees, the highest one was in Şırnak with 24.5 degrees. (TP/SD)
