The Municipality of Tunceli has decided to change its signboard "Municipality of Tunceli" to "Municipality of Dersim", which Turkey's eastern province used to be called until its name was officially changed to Tunceli in 1935.
The Municipality of Tunceli shared the decisions taken in its municipal council with the public yesterday (May 22).
Among the decisions taken by the municipal council is also the one which foresees the change of current municipality signboard from Tunceli to Dersim. The decision in question has been taken by majority of votes.

Some decisions taken by Dersim Municipality are as follows:
Municipal services in Kurdish and Zazaki
- After discussing the change of our municipality service building signboard from "Tunceli" to "Dersim", it has been decided by majority of votes that the "Tunceli" expression written on the signboards in our municipal service building should be changed to "Dersim" with the aim of keeping the culture, history and way of belief of our city alive.
- Considering that along with Turkish, Zazaki and Kurdish are also spoken by majority of residents living in our city, it has been accepted by majority of votes that the municipal services will also be provided in Zazaki and Kurdish in line with the needs of citizens.
- The members of the municipal council suggested names for the park situated next to the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) building; after considering the suggestions, it has been decided by majority of votes that the park should be named "PARKÊ ŞÊĞANKİ".
- After considering the suggestion to establish a commission with the aim of identifying the damages caused by the [state-appointed] trustee, it has been decided to establish a commission comprising the Committee on Planning and Budget members and legal affairs so that the works and acts undertaken in the pre-election period can be investigated and reported.
