Water has accumulated on the roads due to the heavy rain which started last night in İstanbul.
Many places have been flooded, underpasses have been submersed. There are vehicles stuck on the roads.
The downpour toppled some trees and poles. Some people caught in the rain sheltered under the overpasses and bus stops. While some citizens were stuck, some other tried to get away by swimming.
The General Directorate of Meteorology has warned about flood, deluge and landslide.
Minister of Transportation: This is a disaster
Minister of Transportation Ahmet Arslan said “This is a disaster. There is no one who cannot be reached. The Eurasia Tunnel will be opened to traffic soon”.
İstanbul Mayor: No casualties
İstanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş said that there were no casualties.
“We will have a more comfortable life if our citizens don’t go out to traffic. A heavier rain is expected in the afternoon. People need to be more careful then. Thanks to god that there were no casualties in İstanbul. We’ve evacuated some regions”.
