A group of people protesting bombing attack in Suruç district of Urfa province near the Syrian border on July 20, in Southeast of Turkey which left 31 dead and 76 injured behind was attacked by the police in Galatasaray Square in İstanbul.
Thousands of people came together at 7 p.m. in Galatasaray Square on July 20.
Protesters made a press statement and dispersed. At 9 p.m. police used tear gas and water cannon while protesters were dispersing. Some protesters responded police with red paints and fireworks. People scattered after the police attack. Police kept assaulting in side streets.
A call had been made for protesting Suruç Explosion carried out against members of Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF).
Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies; Garo Paylan, Beyza Üstün, Sezai Temelli, Meral Danış Beştaş, Filiz Kerestecioğlu, Hüda Kaya and Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputies Mahmut Tanal and Selina Doğan participated in the march.
Many persons and organizations also marched with banners at their hands. Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Justice and Development Party (AKP) were protested by shouting slogans.
March continued with sit down strike in Galatasaray Square. Protesters stressed peace, freedom and struggle for equality in their speeches. (EKN/BK/ÇT/BD)
