Teacher Facing Charge of Harassment Appointed to Another School

The place of duty of teacher S.D., against whom a lawsuit has been filed on charge of harassing one of his students at the Kadriye Moroğlu Anatolian High School in Küçükçekmece, İstanbul, has been changed.

In a statement released by the Küçükçekmece District Directorate of National Education, it has been indicated that "it is currently out of question to completely discharge him".

A female student named Eylül, who graduated from the Kadriye Moroğlu Anatolian High School last year and has recently started her university education, took the harassments of her former geography teacher at high school to court and spoke to bianet about the incident.

After bianet published the news report, the students of the high school started a campaign on social media and boycotted their classes in protest against the harassment of their teacher.

The teacher has been appointed to another school

The Küçükçekmece District Directorate of National Education has confirmed that the place of duty of the geography teacher S.D. has been changed.

Speaking to bianet, an official from the district directorate has stated that as a result of the recent developments, it has been decided that "the place of duty of the teacher should be changed".

The official has also added that the decision in question has been taken on the ground that "it was no longer possible that the teacher and students can be held in the same environment".

"It is out of question to completely discharge him"

In response to a question regarding whether it is the case that the teacher has been completely discharged from his post, the official has stated:

"Another investigation was launched against this teacher by the District Directorate of Education two years ago. In the investigation, the teacher was not found guilty and it was ruled that he should continue his duty. That is why, it is currently out of question to completely discharge him".

As for the secretariat of the Kadriye Moroğlu Anatolian High School, it has stated, "It is not true that the teacher has left the school" and added that the teacher will continue his duty. (EÜ/ÇT/SD)
