Former minister and head of Police Department Mehmet Ağar’s trial has been sent to another court. Today, the 3rd High Criminal Court dismissed the case for lack of jurisdiction and sent Ağar’s Susurluk case to the 11th High Criminal Court, the court assigned to terrorism and organized crime cases.
Ağar did not come to the hearing
Ağar’s lawyer presented a doctor’s report for Ağar’s absence.
Ağar, who lost his immunity from prosecution when he was not elected to the Parliament at the July 22, 2007 elections, will be accused of the following in this case:
- To form an armed organization to commit crime
- Not to reveal the whereabouts of Abdullah Çatlı who was wanted for the Bahçelievler massacre, even though he had knowledge of it. Çatlı was killed in the car accident at the town of Susurluk that eventually led to the uncovering of the Susurluk conspiracy.
- For gross misconduct by providing Abdullah Çatlı and Yaşar Öz with permits to carry arms and high level special (green) passports. (TK/TB)
