Support for Academics From Architects, Engineers, City Planners

Another support call has been made by architects, engineers and city planners for the academics who have been targeted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and were made subject to investigation over their declaration “We will not be a party to this crime”.

The support-text signed by the architects, engineers and city planners is as follows:

“We will not be a party to this crime!  Em ê nebin hevparên vî sûcî!

“We, as engineers, architects and city planners of this country will also not be a party to this crime!

“The Republic of Turkey is de facto condemning its citizens in Sur, Silvan, Nusaybin, Cizre, Silopi and in many other places to hunger and thirst under curfews lasting weeks and by attacking civil settlements with heavy arms which would only be used in a war, it is violating a series of human rights protected by the constitution and international agreements which it has signed such as the right to life, freedom, security and the prohibitions of torture and maltreatment.

“This intentional and planned massacre has also the characteristics of the violation of mandatory regulations of Turkey’s own laws, international agreements which it has signed, international customary law and international law.

“We call on the state to immediately put an end to the massacres and its intentional deportation policies against all people in the region especially Kurdish people, lift curfews, detect and convict whoever is responsible for the violation of human rights, determining and compensating moral and material damages experienced by the residents of the regions under curfew and providing access to national and international independent observers in the destruction regions and allow them to inspect and report.

“We demand the state to prepare the conditions for negotiations, find solutions for perpetual peace and to determine a course of action including the demands of the will of Kurdish politics. We demand attendance of independent observers to the negotiation meetings and announce that we would like to participate voluntarily as such. We oppose to all kinds of sanctions of the government intending to oppress opposition.

“We demand putting immediately an end to the violence imposed by the state to its citizens and declare that we, as engineers, architects and city planners of this country, will not stay quiet, be a party to this crime and will continue our calls on political parties, the parliament and the international public opinion till our demands are fulfilled”.
