This morning (January 16) a vessel running aground in Beykoz, İstanbul due to steering failure caused the shipping in Bosphorus to be temporarily stopped.
The Directorate General of Coastal Safety announced that the 142-meter freighter named MKK-1 sailing from Ukraine to İstanbul had run aground in Umuryeri in Beykoz, İstanbul and that one rescue ship and three rescue towing boats and one rescue boat had been sent to the spot immediately.
No loss of life
No loss of life, injury, or pollution was reported related to the accident.
İstanbul governorship announced that a Palau flagged dry cargo vessel has run aground in Beykoz, İstanbul around 07:30 a.m. in the morning while sailing from Ukraine to İstanbul and that the traffic on the Bosphorus was suspended in both directions. (TY/PE)
