Şehmus Yetek (65), a sick inmate in Midyat Prison, was released after a forensics report saying that “he can’t remain in the prison alone”.
Yetek's brother Sıdık Yetek told Dicle News Agency that his brother lost his conscious.
Father of 11 children, Yetek was diagnosed with leukemia as a result of his illness during three years.
The incident came into surface when Yetek’s children called to talk to their father. They learnt that he was transferred from Midyat E Type Close Prison to Ankara Numune Hospital. They also learnt that their father had cancer.
"Too late,” doctors allegedly told the family members. He has been jail since 1997 and he's been complaining of his illness.
In hospital now
A Forensic Institute report was sent from Midyat Prison Prosecutor's Office to Sincan No.2 F Type Prison Prosecutor's Office.
Yetek's execution was delayed after Sincan No.2 F Type Prison approved the report.
Later on, Yetek was transferred from Numune Hospital Prisoner Ward to Hospital Ward.
CİSST explained
On June 24, the Civil Society in Penal System Foundation (CİSST) released a statement about Yetek:
"Şehmus Yetek is one of the hundreds of sick prisoners. On June 20 (Friday), his family member and friends called us and informed about Yetek's situation. Yetek's children learned that their father had cancer after Yetek moved from Midyat F Type Close Prison to Ankara Numune Hospital. When the children came to Ankara, they saw that Yetek was already in bed. Şehmus Yetek still was held in prison's ward of the hospital. Yetek's family members started a legal action of Forensic Medicine.” (AS/GOA/BM)
