The 1st Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals announced its decision in the appeal in the Santoro murder case on Wednesday (3 October).
The court has affirmed the sentence of 18 years and 10 months imprisonment for defendant O.A., which had been handed out by the Trabzon Heavy Penal Court.
O.A. has been convicted of shooting and killing priest Andrea Santoro at the Sancta Maria church in Trabzon on 5 February 2006.
O.A. was sixteen years old at that time. Because of his age, the sentence has been comparatively reduced.
He has been sentenced for "planning and killing a person", "possessing an unlicensed gun" and "endangering the general security". (EÜ/AG)
