Request for Release of Pastor Brunson Rejected

Objection to house arrest of US Pastor Andrew Craig Brunson and international travel ban imposed on him be revoked has been rejected.

Brunson’s lawyer Cem Halavurt appealed to İzmir 2nd Heavy Penal Court for court’s decision to be reversed yesterday (August 14).

Speaking to bianet, Halavurt said he would take the case to İzmir 3rd Heavy Penal Court, which is the higher court.

Pastor Brunson is facing up to 15 years in prison on charge of “Committing crime on behalf of a terrorist organization as non-member” and up to 20 years in prison for “spying”.

Brunson was arrested in December 2016 and his detention was turned into house arrest on July 25, 2018. (EKN/TK)
