On Sunday afternoon, anti-terror police teams raided an apartment in Nusaybin district in the southeastern Turkey, killing 1 PKK member who was allegedly a chief militant.
"The suspect resisted the police order to surrender and casted a grenade out from his apartment. He was executed after 20 minutes of shootings," Turhan Ayvaz, Mardin province governor, said a statement.
While Governor Ayvaz declined to disclose the PKK militant's name, local news sources said he was Mehmet Şirin Cebe, PKK's chief officer in Mardin province also known with alias "Akif".
Another PKK member, according to the governor's statement, fled from the clash scene.
"Several local residents initiated a walk to the apartment following the indecent, which was intervened by the police with tear gas," Yüksekovahaber.com local news website said.
Firat News Agency also confirmed the killing on Sunday afternoon, saying that the slain man was allegedly a HPG (People's Defense Force) organization member. (NV)
