Lawyers’ access to the investigation file of the detainee from the May Day protests was restricted. Lawyers had wanted to give their support. However, police in İstanbul Court House, asked permission from the prosecutor to monitor the press statement inside the Court.
20 people under detention were arrested and sent to prison.
Justification of the restriction: “Common good”
Recep Uyanık, İstanbul 2nd Judge of Criminal Court of Peace, imposed restriction to the lawyers from investigating the proofs and accusations against the client. Uyanık made this restriction on behalf of common good and in order not to endanger the aim of the investigation according to his judgement.
“Transgressive press statement”
Yesterday, Police Department of Court House made a written statement to the Public Prosecutor of İstanbul and requested to be illuminated on monitoring the press statement in the Court House. Department stated that in order to detect the criminal evidence and the offenders and to add into the investigation file, they would be in hesitation to monitor the Court House and outbuildings. Thus, police department asked for the information and opinion of the prosecution on the subject. (AS/BD)
