PM Deputy Bülent Arınç mentioned about the press release made by Mahmut Tanal, Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy with trans activists. “Actually, it is possible to move anyone on to parliament rostrum but for transgender you have to be courageous,” he said.
CHP İstanbul Deputy Mahmut Tanal organized a press meeting with Buse Kılıçkaya and Selin Berghan from Pink Life LGBT Solidarity Association and Melahat Deniz and Murat Köylü from Kaos GL on 20 November, the day of remembrance of Transgender Victims of Hate Crime.
Having delivered a speech in General Assembly of the Parliament, Arınç cited Tanal’s press release. “We speak and can speak about some issues in the parliament taking the reputation of our parliament into consideration and without violating the privacy, personal rights and we need to do it. We shout each other here and we show respect outside. We should do this on the rostrum as well. I don’t know whether the one who is quilty is the colors of these chairs or the lust of the rostrum. But we are overwhelmed and we cannot recognize each other.
“In my opinion, Mahmut Tanal is a very kindhearted person but I observe what he has done. I’m saying what I really think. We have talked about some issues a couple of times and he sees himself as a responsible for any issue. He is more courageous than any of us. He held a press conference with transgenders and defended their rights. Actually, it is possible to move anyone on to parliament rostrum but for transgender you have to be courageous. Not everyone can do it. Tanal, you succeeded in it,” he stated.
