The Supreme Court of Appeals submitted a permission request to the Prime Minister’s Office to investigate Necdet Özel - Turkey’s military chief for “attempting to manipulate the judiciary and making political comments”.
The aforementioned investigation dated back to January 23, 2012 when a group of journalists and academicians filed a complaint against Özel due to his comments on the Kurdish question, military courts and the use of Kurdish in public space and education.
However, the court neither issued a decision towards following or unfollowing charges for 2.5 years.
According to Milliyet newspaper, the court transferred the file to Prime Minister’s Office due to a law protecting the prime minister, military chief and military force chiefs - a regulation that went into effect on February 22, 2014.
PM Ahmet Davutoğlu will determine on the permission request that was submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office on March 3. (AS/BM)
