In his speech in Beştepe People Congress and Culture Center at 18th Turkish History Congress, Deputy President Fuat Oktay has said, “We don’t respect decisions of the parliaments which give into Armenian diaspora and ban arguments of Turks”.
Addressing to the remark, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Garo Paylan said, “State’s new position is not based on confrontation but denial”.
Oktay: We don’t respect
Oktay said in the congress:
“We don’t respect decisions of the parliaments which give into Armenian diaspora and ban arguments of Turks.
“Those who attempt to throw mud at us over 1915 incidents failed to achieve their goal despite all their efforts”.
Paylan: There’s no avail in enemizing
Evaluating Oktay’s remarks to bianet, HDP’s Paylan said that Oktay’s statement is a result of state’s re-positioning:
“State’s new position is not based on confrontation but denial and assimilation. In this regard, it needs new enemies. There is no avail in enemizing the Armenian diaspora”.
Stating that the remarks which don’t touch on suffering of thousands of Armenians living Turkey won’t benefit peoples of Turkey, Paylan said that this discourse was a result of “Turkism perspective”.
“Those whom you have enemzied are my relatives, they are our citizens”, Paylan concluded. (EK/EKN/TK)
