Working in a mine affiliated with the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprise Institution (TTK) Karadon Establishment Directorate in Zonguldak, 34-year-old Ramazan Toprak got stuck between two carriages in the night shift.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the incident happened during an operation of transportation.
Severely wounded in the incident, Toprak was taken out of the mine with the help of his colleagues.
Brought to the Zonguldak Atatürk State Hospital by the paramedic teams in an ambulance, Ramazan Toprak has lost his life at the hospital.
Toprak reportedly started working at the mine in 2006 and he was married with two children. The dead body of the worker has been taken to the mortuary of the hospital for the autopsy.
On December 29, 2020, in another mine of the TTK, worker Soner Dağlıoğlu lost his life after being trapped between the carriages. According to the 2020 data of the Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG Assembly), at least 1,821 miners have lost their lives in Turkey over the past 18 years. (HA/SD)
