İstanbul Police Headquarters teams from the Narcotic Branch and other branches conducted 11 thousand 531 inspections and operations in the city between January 30 and March 30 in the scope of the work carried out for preventing drug production and trade.
Anadolu Agency reported that actions were taken on 14 thousand 16 people, and 1404 of them have been arrested.
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu informed last month that the total number of people in prisons for drug-related crimes, which was between 36-37 thousand in 2017-2018 had reached 121 thousand this year.
A bill was approved in the Parliament yesterday that compels those convicted for selling or using drugs to follow compulsory treatment and rehabilitation programs. (AS/PE)
