Over 100 people have been taken into custody in the operation launched against the Gülen Community in nine cities.
The Gülen movement is a transnational religious and social movement led by Turkish Islamic scholar and preacher Fethullah Gülen. The group is currently accused of attempting to overthrow the democratically elected Turkish government through a judicial coup in December 2013. It is accused of engaging in illegal wiretapping, blackmail and issuing threats. Investigations into the group are continuing. |
In the İstanbul-based operations, directors of the well-known Dumankaya İnşaat (Dumankaya Construction) have been among the suspects.
CNN Türk reported that the investigation carried out by Ankara Public Prosecutor Hüseyin Önelge alleges that around 50 million liras ($17 million) of financial aid was provided to the Gülen Movement under the name of “benevolence” between the years of 2004-2015.
There are Honorary President of Dumankaya İnşaat Halit Dumankaya, board members Uğur Dumankaya, Ayla Dumankaya Pirinççi and Semih Serhat Dumankaya among the suspects.
There is custody order on 140 people, as Hürriyet daily reported.
Bank Asya workers are also reportedly among the detainees so far.
The detained suspects will be questioned at Financial Bureau Directorate following the physical examination.
The company in its written statement as to the investigation stated that they will continue monitoring the situation.
