Out of 51,770 people who applied to the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (IMM) Regional Employment Offices, 48 percent had an undergraduate degree and 55 percent were women, according to a report released by the municipality.
The municipality introduced the employment offices last July after the election of Ekrem İmamoğlu, a member of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), on June 23, 2019.
Thirteen percent of the applicants found a job and 69 percent of them were under the age of 35, the report says. Küçükçekmece was the district with the highest number of applications with 9,861.
Here are some highlights from the report:
- Of the applicants, 2 percent were between 15-19 years old, 25 percent were between 20-24 years old, 42 percent were between 25-34 years old, 29 percent were between 35-54 years old and 2 percent were over 55 years old. . 72 percent of women and 65.6 percent of men who applied were between 15-34 years old.
- Of the applicants, 14 percent had an education degree lower than high school, 38 percent had a high school or equivalent degree, and 48 percent had a higher education degree. 35 percent of women and 26 percent of men were higher education graduates.
- Küçükçekmece became the district with the highest number of applications with 9,861 people. It was followed by Kartal (2,688), Pendik (Pendik with 2,352), Bağcılar (2,121) and Esenyurt (2,093).
- The highest number of applications were made for pre-accounting. It was followed by clerkship, waiter, sales consultant and cashier.
- The job position most sought by companies that applied to the Regional Employment Offices was also pre-accounting. It was followed by cleaning worker, call center customer representative, waiter and cook.
- After pre-accountancy, the cleaner, call center customer representative, waiter and cook came. The most sought-after sector was the service sector. Textile, ready-to-wear and leather, food, education and tourism, accommodation and food and beverage services followed respectively the service sector.
- The sector where employers look for the highest number of workers was the service sector. It was followed by textile, ready-made clothing and leather, food, education and tourism, accommodation and food and beverage.
- In the job postings made by employers through the Regional Employment Office, Ümraniye was the most sought-after region of residence for employees. It was followed by Esenyurt, Küçükçekmece, Pendik, Bağcılar, Tuzla, Sultangazi, Bahçelievler, Başakşehir and Kağıthane.
- 6,626 of the 51,770 people who applied for a job were placed in jobs. 40 percent of those who were placed in a job were women and 60 percent were men.
- The job position with the highest employment was the cleaning worker, the second was the warehouse worker, the third was the production staff, the fourth was the call center customer representative, and the fifth was the packaging staff.
- 22.6 percent of the employment was in Küçükçekmece and it was followed by Bağcılar, Avcılar, Maltepe and Beylikdüzü. (HA/VK)
