Taken into cusody during a sit-in protest for missing Gülistan Doku in Dersim province, university student Gülistan Doku's mother and sister have been released from detention following their deposition.
Mother Bedriye Doku and elder sister Aygül Doku started a sit-in protest in Seyit Rıza Square in Dersim at 12 p.m. today (September 7). The Security Director of Tunceli (Dersim) wanted the women to end the protest and talked to them for almost an hour to dissuade them from the sit-in.
After the family said that they would not end the protest, Bedriye and Aygül Doku have been taken into custody by riot police officers.
They have been released later in the evening.
'They formed a wall of flesh'
Speaking to bianet about the incident, Şükran Yılmaz Koç from the Dersim Women's Platform said that women also wanted to join the mother and the elder sister in their protest; however, the police did not let other women approach the Doku family in any way: "The people around were not let to approach the family. The Dersim Women's Platform wanted to join the sit-in protest, but the riot police officers formed a wall of flesh.
"Security Director came to talk to them, but both Aygül and the mother said they would not end the protest. After the talks, Aygül expressed their demands again. She said they wanted Zeınal to be arrested, the stepfather E.Y. to be included in the investigation and to meet President Erdoğan.
"The police then detained the mother and the elder sister by dragging them on the ground. They forced the mother to bow down. They said that unions, political parties, women could not join this protest." (RT/SD)
