Minimum wage has been increased from 1,300 Liras (350 euros) to 1,404 (375 euros) for the year of 2017.
Commission of Fixing the Minimum Wages assembled under the presidency of Minister of Labor and Social Security Mehmet Müezzinoğlu has held its last meeting.
“We tried to make a joint decision about which I as the minister am not pleased either in an effort to start a journey in which we will minimize our troubles by sharing for a peaceful future. We’d announced the inflation as 6.5% and there is an increase of 8% in the minimum wage, which marks 1,404 Liras”.
Who wanted what?
The minimum wage is fixed by the Commission of Fixing the Minimum Wage. While the worker side is represented by the Confederation of Worker Unions of Turkey (Türk-İş), which is the confederation with the most members, employer side is represented by the Confederation of Employers Union of Turkey (TİSK).
Last year, the minimum wage was increased from 1,000 Liras to 1,300 as Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) election pledge. The TİSK had demanded “zero raise”, Türk-İş 1,600 Liras and (Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey) DİSK 2,000 Liras. (NV/TK)
