Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık and Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu attended the "Struggle against Violence against Women Provincial Coordination Monitoring and Evaluation Meeting" at the Security and Emergencies Coordination Center (GAMER).
Attending the meeting where the governors of 81 provinces were online via video conference, Minister of Interior Soylu said, "As of November 15, 251 femicides were committed this year. Last year, this number was 268. It is seen that we will be above this number this year."
However, bianet male violence monitoring reports have shown that men killed 285 women in the first 326 days of 2021.

Minister's solution offer: Electronic bracelets
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu also said that "the Electronic Bracelet Center has a capacity of a thousand bracelets". He briefly added:
"There are 287 active electronic bracelets across Turkey now. The number of expired practices of placing electronic bracelets is 501.
"So, a total of 788 decisions of electronic bracelets were given, implemented and are still being implemented. Thus, I am of the opinion that we should make efforts to increase the number of protective and preventive injunctions and the number of electronic bracelet decisions. Reconciling people and sending them home is an easy method; but it is apparently not the solution."
Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık said that domestic violence and violence against women concern all segments of society. (EMK/SD)
