Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu slammed the president's summer house after its photos were revealed for the first time.
"People are starving, but he doesn't care. He built a summer palace for himself," Kılıçdaroğlu told his party's parliamentary group yesterday (July 6).
The summer house was built in Marmaris, Muğla on Turkey's west coast in 2019. It reportedly cost 640 million lira (73 million USD).
The architect of the project, Şefik Birkiye, released the images of the project for the first time on Monday.
"A new austerity circular has been issued. The circular includes a palace. He issues an austerity circular and says 'except me'," said Kılıçdaroğlu.
"I address my brothers and sisters voting for the AKP. If wasting is a sin and you still vote for them, you sin, too. There is luxury, bribery and corruption," he said.
"We asked them what they did with 128 billion dollars [Central Bank reserves]. It's not clear to whom it was sold. They robbed the money of the martyrs and veterans of July 15 [2016 coup attempt]. They sold factories, land..." (DŞ/VK)
