People’s Republican Party (CHP) Deputy Chair and MP from Malatya, Vali Ağbaba, has submitted legislative proposal to parliament for hate crimes to be defined and increase penalties of crimes committed within this scope.
While emphasizing that social polarization and exclusion in society have deepened; violent acts against women, refugees, and social segments of different beliefs have increased, it was stated that penalty of crimes such as willful murder, injury, torture, sexual assault, damaging property, damaging houses of prayer and cemeteries should be increased by taken into scope of major crime.
Hate crime is defined as follows in the legislative proposal:
“Hate inducement means to be target for crimes caused by hatred due to language, race, nationality, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, political thought, philosophical belief, religion or sectarian difference”. (ÇT/TK)
