The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has declared that none of the border gates would be handed to the government of Baghdad.
The KRG had refused the demand that the airport be handed to the government of Baghdad two days ago (September 27).
International flights
Central government in Iraq had demanded that the flights to the KRG be suspended. The international flights to the KRG will be halted as of 6 p.m. today (September 29). The flights will not be held until December 29, according to the statement by Erbil International Airport.
Oil export
Iraq had agreed with Turkey on sanctions to be imposed on the KRG and that Turkey announced that it would only work with the government of Baghdad about oil export.
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said, “Turkey will now run all its economic, business and diplomatic relations with Iraq through the central government”.
Decision of Iran
A similar decision was made by Iran today. Iranian semi-official agency Tesnim reported that “All sorts of oil transportation from or to the KRG have been banned until further notice”.
92.73% of the participants voted in favor of independence in the independence referendum held by the KRG that is not recognized by the Iraqi central government. (YY/TK)
