The court also handed Kara a fine of 20 billion Turkish lira (USD 12,500) for "not complying with the decision made as a result of wrong address declaration."
Sub governor Tuncer and Mufti Aytekin sued Kara for "insulting" them, while Karadag sued the journalist for "threatening" him. Kara was also charged with "wrong address declaration."
Kara was sentenced to 23 months in prison for using a room in his house as an office for his local newspaper, but had continued to publish his newspaper saying the court decision was illegal.
Acquittal for wrong address declaration
The court acquitted Kara for wrong address declaration. The case was opened by the Datca sub governor Tuncer.
The "insult" case by sub governor Tuncer and Mufti Aytekin was postponed till June 16, 2003.
After the hearing, Kara told reporters that the court was prejudiced against him and that the court decision was illegal. (BB/NK/EA/NM)
