As predicted, schools were closed on Monday and Tuesday because of the heavy snow fall in Istanbul. The city authorities are not able to clear all the side roads, so pupils are told to stay at home in order to relieve the traffic and avoid accidents.
Many people have been happy because they remember the water shortages of last summer; they believe that the snow will allow the dams around Istanbul to fill up. However, according to TGRT news on Monday evening, the snow will only add 5 percent water to Istanbul's supplies.
Photographer Hüseyin Özdemir has pointed to another pleasure of the snow: to be able to photograph a different atmosphere in the city.
