Investigation into Academics Involved in Protest Against Discharges at Ankara University

The Ankara University Presidency has brought a disciplinary investigation against the academics who participated in a protest held in support of discharged academics. Police had intervened in the protest.
It was stated in a document sent to academics that those who had laid gowns on the floor during the protest on February 10 had been determined and that an investigation had been launched against them.
No information concerning what charges were pressed against them was included in the document.
Ankara University Faculty of Law member Assist. Prof. Dr. Kerem Altıparmak said that at least six people, himself included, faced an investigation.
The academics were asked to be at a specified location for investigation and the collection of information before September 7.
What happened?
Following the discharge of 78 academics from the Ankara University through statutory decree no. 686, an event called "The Grand Meeting" was held at Cebeci Campus on February 10.
The academics were prevented from entering the campus, but police entered the campus. The academics had protested the police setting up barricades in front of the campus by laying down their gowns. Police hit the academics and detained 11 people.
Korkut Boratav and Baskın Oran, who were among the academics who were discharged from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences through Martial Law No. 1402 enacted following the September 12 coup, were also not allowed to enter the campus. (BK/TK/LN)
