Imam Hasan Taştan, who reportedly has went into a depression upon his teacher son M.T getting arrested in Mersin province in the operations launched against the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) as a part of the investigation into the Gülen Community, has committed suicide.
Hasan Taştan, working as an imam in Zeytinli Bahçe Mosque in Toroslar district of Mersin province committed suicide after the night prayer in the housings beside the mosque.
Taştan’s body has been brought to Adana Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy after being delivered to the morgue of Mersin State Hospital.
The community of the mosque has noted that Hasan Taştan has gone into a depression upon his son getting arrested.
Including Taştan’s murder, the number of (alleged) suicides has risen to 13 since the coup attempt on July 15. Seven of these (alleged) suicides happened in prisons, in detention or while being taken into custody. (EKN/DG)
