70-year-old ill prisoner Mehmet Ali Çelebi has lost his life shortly after he was released from Sincan Prison in the capital city of Turkey.
Released from prison in Ankara on August 25 after his medical condition had taken a turn for the worse, Çelebi was taken to a hospital.
Treated for cancer at the Başakşehir Çam Sakura City Hospital in İstanbul, Mehmet Ali Çelebi was taken to the intensive care unit on August 31 as his disease spread to other parts of his body.
Çelebi lost his life on September 4 and his deceased body was reportedly laid to rest a day later, on September 5. As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Mehmet Ali Çelebi had been behind bars for 28 years. He was transferred from the Bolu Type F Closed Prison to the Ankara Sincan Prison for treatment. He had a stroke during his treatment there.
According to the data of the Human Rights Association (İHD), there are 1,605 ill prisoners in Turkey, 604 of them are seriously ill. (RT/SD)
