Ibrahim Seyitcemaloglu, the head of the Human Rights Association (IHD), read the communiqué prepared by the IHD, Union of Municipal Employees (Tum Bel-Sen), Union of Education Science and Culture Workers (Egitim-Sen), Retired People's Trade Union (Emekli-Sen), Halkevi branches, the association of people from Tunceli, Freedom and Solidarity Party (ODP) and Democratic People's Party (DEHAP).
"A military strike against Iraq by the U.S. would bring death, but not democracy to the region," stated Seyitcemaloglu on the Fethiye Street.
"People are dying and the nature is being damaged because of the wars around
the world," said Seyitcemaloglu.
"Claiming to bring democracy, the U.S. wants to start a new war. This means death and demolition for the people in the region. This war, which Turkey is being dragged into, is a war of the U.S. to dominate Iraq, which owns one fourth of the world's oil reserves."
After the communiqué was read, people who attended the press statement chanted "no war, end poverty," and left. (BB/NK/EA/NM)
