The access to the website of Hürriyet daily newspaper was blocked for a while yesterday (March 7). The website can again be accessed as of 6 p.m.
It was written "//" instead of "/" by mistake
Issuing a statement about the incident, Hürriyet has shared the information that an employee made a mistake while implementing a court decision:
"According to the information obtained by Hürriyet, this technical mistake was made by an employee at Turkcell, one of the leading mobile phone and internet operators of Turkey, while he was implementing a court decision issued by Denizli 2nd Criminal Court of Peace in relation to a news report.
"When the URL of this single news report to be blocked as per the related court decision was shared, the "/" symbol was mistakenly written as "//".
"While other operators implemented the court decision as it was supposed to be, the employee at Turkcell did not realize this erroneously made mistake and copied the address as it was, causing the related blockage to be directed to the main website and the problem in question occurred.
"Upon being informed about the mistake, Turkcell has again started to provide its users with access to hurriyet.com.tr as of around 6 p.m."
What happened?
Hurriyet daily newspaper's website could not be accessed for a while yesterday (March 7). When Türksat Kablo Net internet service provider users tried to access Hürriyet daily newspaper's website, they saw 404 error. The site directed to the Association of Service Providers' warning site.
As the site could not be accessed via http and https protocols through Türksat Kablo Net, mobile access was possible through Vodafone internet provider. (EA/TK/SD)
