Detained on December 14, defense attorneys of Samanyolu TV Broadcasting Group Chairman Hidayet Karaca appealed the arrest for various reasons including ill-treatment and hoax claims on “illegal armed organization”.
The request has been made yesterday by advocate Fikret Duran. Karaca is kept in Silivri Prison since December 19.
Duran: “An investigation with no grounds”
Advocate Duran made a press statement after appealing the case at İstanbul 1st Peace Court Authorities.
He reminded that they have already refuted the claims cited in the voice recordings between his client and influential cleric were Fethullah Gülen, responding to the allegations of “strong suspicions based on tangible claims” for his arrest.
“Because the judge ordered the arrest only on these recordings. This investigation has collapsed. It has no grounds,” he continued.
Duran also added that his client had been kept under detention for 86 with no statement in unhealthy and cold condition - 14 hours more than regulations.
The statement also cited that Karaca suffered from several illnesses and allegedly rebuked by law enforcement officer as he asked water for his medicine.
What happened?
Accused of attempted coup against the government, Zaman newspaper editor-in-chief Ekrem Dumanlı has been released after 4 days of detention pending a trial with December 14 Operation.
Refused to testify in court, Samanyolu TV Broadcasting Group Chairman Hidayet Karaca, however, has been arrested along with 3 other suspects.
Dumanlı and Karaca have been charged with “being a member of an armed terrorist organization”, “depriving individuals of their freedom by force or threat” and “false accusations”. (EÖ/BM)
