Ahead of November 25 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Ağrı MP and HDP Women's Assembly Spokesperson Dilan Dirayet Taşdemir submitted a Parliamentary inquiry to the Parliament.
Taşdemir requested a Parliamentary investigation into male violence against women "so that violence against women can be urgently addressed by the Parliament, preventive policies can be developed, a database of information on violence can be created and the necessary support can be offered to the women subjected to violence."
HDP's Parliamentary inquiry has been directly rejected by the votes of ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and allying Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). MPs of the İYİ Party have abstained from the vote.
'You can obey, but we won't'
As reported by daily Yeni Yaşam, Taşdemir also made a speech about the inquiry that she submitted to the Parliament.
"Women are massacred everyday, but we cannot talk about it openly and clearly", Taşdemir has said. Reminding the other MPs that the HDP has submitted several Parliamentary questions and inquiries about the issue, Taşdemir has stressed that they have all been rejected by the Parliament.
Taşdemir has also said, "Moreover, events and activities that we want to hold on the occasion of November 25 Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women have been banned as well.
"An officer prevents women from distributing leaflets because the sentence on the leaflets reads, 'We don't obey.' Yes, you can obey, but we will not."

Gül said 'We will support any legal regulation'
Speaking at the meeting of the Committee for Monitoring Violence Against Women on November 15, Minister of Justice Abdulhamit Gül pledged that "they would support any legal regulation to expand the rights of women." (EKN/SD)
