Six municipal council members from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) have been dismissed from the District Municipality of Sur in Diyarbakır.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency, HDP's municipal council members have been dismissed on the ground of ongoing investigations and lawsuits against them on charge of "being members of a terrorist organization".
The following six municipal council members have been removed from office by the Ministry of Interior: Cemal Özdemir, Sevim Coşkun, Ruşen Tayfun, Halime Akyol, Mürsel Erel and Yılmaz Eken.
Sur Co-Mayors Filiz Buluttekin and Cemal Özdemir were taken into custody on December 20, 2019 and replaced with state-appointed trustees on December 21. On December 23, they were arrested on charge of "being members of a terrorist organization". (EKN/SD)
