Detained in house raids conducted in Turkey's eastern province of Van on December 6, Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) Muradiye District Co-Mayor Yılmaz Şalan and Özalp District Co-Mayors Dilan Örenci and Yakup Almaç were arrested yesterday (December 9).
HDP's other Muradiye District Co-Mayor Leyla Balkan and its Başkale District Co-Mayor have been released on probation.
The mayors have been charged with "membership of a terrorist organization" and propagandizing for a terrorist organization".
Speaking at the Parliament yesterday before HDP's three co-mayors were arrested, HDP Co Chair Pervin Buldan announced that HDP's 17 dismissed co-mayors were behind bars. (EKN/SD)
