Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Ferhat Encü has been relieved of MP duties.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly opened under the presidency of Deputy Chair Yaşar Tüzün at 3 p.m. yesterday (February 6).
Reading out the missive about Encü, Tüzün said that “In line with finalized court verdict sentencing Şırnak MP Ferhat Encü to 3 years and 9 months in prison on charge of terrorism propaganda, he is relieved of his MP duties”.
About Ferhat Encü
Encü was born in Roboski district in Şırnak province on August 5, 1985. High-school graduate Encü speaks Kurdish at very good level.
34 people 28 of whom were from the same family were killed in jet bombardment in Ortasu/Roboski and Gülyazı/Bujes villages in Şırnak's Uludere district on December 28,2011. Encü lost 11 of his relatives in the bombardment.
He was elected Şırnak MP from the HDP in June 7, 2015 elections. Afterwards, he entered the parliament as HDP MP in November 1 snap elections.
He is a member of Commission of Government Business Enterprises at the parliament.
Encü was arrested on November 4, 2017.
9 MPs are behind bars
In the wake of legislation proposal concerning lifting the parliamentary immunities of the MPs for whom summary of proceedings were issued, a large number of HDP MPs have been taken into custody, released and arrested.
As of November 13, 2017, nine HDP MPs including Figen Yüksekdağ who was relieved of HDP duties are behind bars. In addition to the HDP MPs, Republican People’s Party (CHP) İstanbul MP Enis Berberoğlu has been in prison since June 14, 2017. Berberoğlu was arrested in MİT (National Intelligence Agency) Trucks case.
