Yazidi people celebrate the Çarşema Sor (the Red Wednesday) on every first Wednesday after April 13.
The other name of Çarşema Sor is the Melek Taus (the Peacock Angel), a central figure in the Yazidi religion. Yazidis believe that Melek Taus came to the earth and the creation of the universe is completed on this day, which is also the first day of the Yazidi calendar.
"The beginning of the spring"
The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has celebrated the Çarşema Sor in a written statement which briefly said the following:
"According to the creation mythology of the Yazidi community, Çarşema Sor is the day both our world and the universe fermented.
"Çarşema Sor corresponds to the day that the absolute good dominates the world with this holy birth repeating every year, and the day the God removes all the malignancy and builds beauty.
"Çarşema Sor is the day of the absolute victory of the power of love and beauty, and a day of the absolute defeat of malignancy and evil.
"Because of this character, we wish that this year's Çarşema Sor feast leads to the liberation of the women and children who are captives in the hands of the ISIS, and to the defeat of the Salafist barbarians.
"We call the whole family of humanity to oppose the series of mandates that are imposed on the Yazidis and to be sensitive to this 73rd slaughter.
"Celebrating the Çarşema Sor feast, we hope the geography of the Middle East meets the days when all peoples, especially the Yazidis, live freely, equally and in peace." (PT/VK)
