The General Staff has announced that the operations carried out during curfew lasting since March 14 in Turkey’s southeastern Yüksekova district of Hakkari have ended. However, the curfew has been lasting for 39 days in the district.
The General Staff stating security forces killed 196 Civil Protection Units (YPS) members, declared that 214 barricades were removed, 135 ditches were closed and 189 explosives were defused during the operations in Yüksekova.
The General Staff also stated that the works to remove barricades, close the ditches, and search activities continue districtwide.
People are worried that operations might expand to villages

Yüksekova News Editorial Director, Erkan Çapraz had spoken to bianet Co-Editor-in-Chief, Haluk Kalafat as to the recent situation in the district.
Çapraz stating operations continue in six neighborhoods, had noted that the operations are gradually expanding and there is the worry among people that they might be directed towards neighboring villages.
338 civilians killed in eight months, according to TİV
According to data of Human Rights Association of Turkey (TİHV), 338 civilians killed in the places where curfew was declared from August 16, 2015 to April 20, 2016.
TİHV expresses that of those killed, 78 were children and 30 were above 60 years old.

Yüksekova is one of the three districts of Turkey’s southeastern province of Hakkari. It is located a few kilometers away from the Turkish-Iraqi border.
