Şemdinlihaber, a local news website, launched a fundraising campaign to rebuild Atuturk Secondary School, a ruined secondary school building in Altinsu village after two consecutive arson incidents in the past year.
On September 21, the school was put on fire by a group of masked individuals. Following the first renovation effort by school's teachers, students and administration, a second arson incident broke out, leaving the school building in ruins.
The second renovation effort resulted with a partial relief, however school officials said they still need more renovation to rebuild a kindergarten and a library.
"Besides, student generally lack the basic educational materials," the school administration said.
Şemdinlihaber's campaign aimed to improve the education conditions of students and educators.
"If you also wish to see our students continue their education in a nice classroom, if you also wish to see our student have a bright future, and if you also wish to see out educators with full motivation, join our campaign," the campaign statement said.
The campaign aimed to raise funds to repair the kindergarten section of the school complex as well as building news classrooms and providing basic educational materials to students.
