Detained in Czechia's capital city of Prague upon Turkey's request, former Democratic Union Party (PYD) Co-chair Salih Müslim was released by the court he was taken to today (February 27).
The hearing started at 1 p.m. Turkish local time. Müslim's attorney Miroslav Krutina announced the release of his client.
It was claimed that Salih Müslim was "sought with Red Notice", however, it was then uncovered that there was no international Red Notice issued for him. Following Turkey's request, Müslim was "temporarily arrested" on February 25, 2018. The court was awaiting documents that Turkey would send. Turkey was supposed to deliver the documents by 11 p.m. last night.
About Salih Müslim
Syrian politician and former engineer, Müslim is the former PYD Co-chair.
Müslim was born in Kobane town in Aleppo, Syria in 1951. Going to İstanbul in 1970s, Müslim graduated from Department of Chemical Enginner, İstanbul Technical University.
He joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Syria, which is the Syrian offset of Kurdistan Democratic Party in 1998. He left this party and joined the PYD. He became leader of this party in 2010.
Müslim was sentenced to jail by Bashar al-Assad government in 2003 but was released after a short while. He moved to Iraq in 2010 and returned to Syria in 2011.
One of his six sons Shervan Muslim lost his life in a conflict that erupted between the People's Protection Units (YPG) and Al Qaeda in Fatina village located 15 kilometers from Kobane in 2013. (HK/TK)
