Former Governor of İstanbul Hüseyin Avni Mutlu is among many others who are also suspended.
Ministry of Interior had announced yesterday (July 18) that 8,777 staff members working for the central and provincial organization have been suspended.
Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, the former Governor of İstanbul who later has been assigned to the head office was also among the 246 local authorities suspended.
Who is Hüseyin Avni Mutlu
Hüseyin Avni, born in Rize has served as sub-Governor in Silopi district of Şırnak province between 1992-1994, Vice Governor of Şırnak between 1994-1997, sub-Governor in Eceabat district of Çanakkale between 1997-2002 and later as Vice Governor of Çanakkale for one year.
He was the sub-Governor of Bağcılar district of İstanbul between 2003-2005. Between 2005-2007 he was the Governor of Siirt and between 2007-2010 Governor of Diyarbakır. In 2010, he was assigned as Governor of İstanbul.
He was the Governor of İstanbul during Gezi Resistance. On September 15, 2014 he became the Governor of Center* (NV/DG)
* “Center Governorship” is considered a passive mission and central governors have an office in Ministry of Interior where they only have a table and a seat and they have no active mission.
