The United Public Workers Confederation has shared the results of its monthly "People's Inflation" study for October 2020.
Monitoring the montly and annual changes in prices of 77 food items consumed by the general public most frequently, the confederation's latest report has shown that the money paid for these 77 items has increased by 32 percent over the last year. When compared to the 12-month averages, it is seen that the prices have increased by 31.2 percent.
Bread is by 1.6 percent more expensive
While the prices of bread, flour, bulgur (cracked wheat), rice and pasta have increased by 1.6 percent when compared to the previous month, there has been a 0.8 percent increase in the prices of meat-fish.
As for the money spent on milk, dairy products and eggs, it has increased by 1.1 percent in a month and the money spent on fat and oil has increased by 12.4 percent in the same period. Taken together, food prices have increased by 1.7 percent in October when compared to September.
Vegetable prices have increased by half
The rate of increase in food expenditures has been calculated as 21.5 percent in the January-October 2020 period.
In this period, the money spent on bread, bulgur and the like has increased by 9.2 percent while the money spent on fish-meat has increased by 20.2 percent and milk, dairy products and eggs has increased by 9.6 percent.
While the prices of fat and oil have increased by 36.3 percent, fruit prices have increased by 27.1 percent and vegetable prices by 49.8 percent.
When the increase in people's food expenditures is concerned, the study of the confederation has shown that it has increased by 32 percent when compared to the same period last year.
Based on 12-month averages, it is seen that the prices of food have increased by 31.2 percent in a year. (DŞ/SD)
