Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates have complied with the call made by the central Iraqi government for the flight embargo on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in the wake of the independence referendum held by the KRG on September 25.
UAE’s airline FlyDubai made a statement to Associated Press. The UAE will conduct its last trip on Friday.
Egypt’s airline EgyptAir also announced that it would suspend its flights of Cairo-Erbil on Friday.
Lebanese airline MEA halts its trips to Erbil on Friday. Speaking to Reuters, MEA Chair Muhammed el Hut said that there won’t be any flights after September 29 until the issue is fixed.
Turkey’s Consulate General in Erbil issued a written statement: “Flights by the Turkish Airlines, Atlas Global and Pegasus to Erbil and Sulaimania will not be carried out after 6 p.m. on Friday”.
The administration of Baghdad had declared that international flights to Erbil and Sulaimania to be suspended as of Friday, and only domestic flights will be permitted. (HK/TK)
