The 26th Ordinary General Assembly of the Artvin Bar Association in eastern Black Sea region was held. While the list of current bar association chair lawyer Ali Uğur Çağal received 40 votes, the list of lawyer Ayla Varan received 57 votes and she has become the new bar chair.
The Artvin Bar Association was founded in 1970. After 51 years, Ayla Varan has been the first woman elected as the Chair of Artvin Bar. The bar's executive committee consists of 16 people, 11 of whom are women.
About Ayla Varan
Born in Artvin in 1968, lawyer Ayla Varan graduated from İstanbul University Faculty of Law in 1988. She was a member of the Artvin Bar Association Executive Committee between 1990-1996.
She took charge again in the Artvin Bar's Executive Committee between 2000-2002 and 2006-2007. After working as a freelance lawyer between 1990 and 1998, she worked as Legal Affairs Manager in the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAŞ) and State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) 26th Regional Directorate. She ended her duty as a public lawyer in 2014.
She was a Board Member of the Association for the Disabled, a Member of the Green Artvin Association, and a Member of the Human Rights Board and Commissions. Varan, the Executive Lawyer of Varan Law Firm, is currently the Head of Ataturkist Thought Association Artvin Branch. (EMK/SD)
