The first reaction towards the implementation of the internet censorship bill came from Turkey’s news websites with putting black tapes on their logos.
While bianet put a black mark on its logo, Sosyalmedya.com did the same on its news content.
Radikal newspaper, on the other, started deleting its content after 4 hours of publication.
Within the new bill, “inappropriate” content can be removed by the authorities within 4 hours.
Social media users also launched a campaign with the hashtag #4saat (#4hours).
President Abdullah Gül sent a tweet message last night, saying that he has approved the bill as soon as he returned from his trip to Hungary. Amid all the criticism from experts, lawyers, international community, NGOs, labor unions and professional chambers, the bill got into effect as of this morning after being published on the official gazette.
